October wine tastings

1st October, Raats Family Wines

Raats Family Wines concentrate their focus on Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc, producing distinctive wines from old Stellenbosch vineyards that consistently garner local and international accolades. MR de Compostella, described as “the most revered Bordeaux style blend in South Africa”, is the result of the collaboration between long-time winemaker friends Mzokona Mvemve and Bruwer Raats.

8th October, Morgenster Wine estate

Morgenster’s philosophy of letting the vintage determine each year’s specific blend of the Bordeaux cultivars grown here has nurtured the success of this famous wine and olive oil estate. The blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot age exceptionally well and attract accolades from all over the world. A white blend, single varietals and a range of Italian wines are also produced.

15th October, Spice Route Wines

In the late 1990s, Charles Back stumbled upon a Sauvignon Blanc of such a high quality that he bought the old Swartland tobacco farm that produced it. Today Spice Route Wines produces three single varietal reds and three single varietal whites from the dryland vineyards of Klein Amoskuil farm on the West Coast. Malabar is made only in the finest vintages, “the ultimate expression of the fruit of the Earth guided by the Hand of Man”.

22nd October, The Stellenbosch Reserve

Discover the wines crafted by Jean Engelbrecht (of Rust en Vrede fame), Dillie Malherbe and Jannie Durand – friends since their school days. All three still live and work in the place of their birth and these wines are their homage to the town they love. The Stellenbosch Reserve range comprises Vanderstel (a red blend), Ou Hoofgebou (Cabernet Sauvignon), Kweekskool (Merlot) and Moederkerk (Chardonnay).

29th October, Silverthorn Wines

Demand for Silverthorn Wines increased to such an extent that John Loubser, formerly of Steenberg, now focuses full time on what was once his hobby: producing The Green Man, The Genie and Jewel Box Methode Cap Classique wines. And the accolades, stars and awards keep coming – last year The Green Man 2011 beat 6 000 other wines to win Wine of the Show at the Six Nations Wine Challenge. Cheers!

Tastings are from 18h00 – 19h00 every Monday, year round, and are staged at our Garden Lounge. We look forward to seeing you there!
