Looking for things to do in Cape Town? Look no further! After last year’s sell-out success of The Hotel Plays, the Vineyard Hotel and Abrahamse & Meyer Productions again join forces to bring theatre lovers an unforgettable evening of fine dining, wonderful wines and two of the most outrageous and hilarious plays by Tennessee Williams.

Presented under the collective title Two by Tenn, the two one-act plays will be performed between the three courses of a sumptuous Thelema wine-paired dinner.

One of the hotel’s historic suites will be transformed into an intimate and immersive theatre space for the performances.

The first play is the side-splitting comedy A Perfect Analysis Given By A Parrot. Set in a desolate St. Louis juke-joint in the late 1930s two ageing good-time girls, Bessie and Flora, hope to meet up with the Sons of Mars before the night is done. The production was described as “excellent” and “fantastically exciting” when Abrahamse & Meyer premiered Parrot in the USA last year. The unique feature of this production is that Bessie and Flora are “played” by two outrageous life-size puppets representing Elizabeth Taylor and Joan Crawford, assisted by the vocal and puppeteering talents of award-winning Dean Balie and Marcel Meyer.

The second play is one of Williams’s most bizarre, The Remarkable Rooming-House of Mme. LeMonde. Director Fred Abrahamse has assembled a stellar cast for Mme LeMonde. The inimitable Lady Aria Grey stars as Madame LeMonde, while Matthew Baldwin plays her hapless tenant Mint. Dean Balie will bring his matchless comic talents to the eccentric role of Hall while Marcel Meyer plays LeMonde’s sadistic son.

Two by Tenn will premiere on 15 July at 19:00 and have additional performances on 21, 22, 29 July and 4, 5, 12, 18, 19 August and 2 September.

Tickets are priced at R650 per person and include the three-course wine-paired dinner and the two plays.

Seating is limited due to the intimate nature of production and booking is essential.
