The phenomenon that is Tennessee Williams’s The Hotel Plays had its African premiere at the Vineyard this winter. Featuring some of Williams’s most lyrical and powerful writing, The Hotel Plays opened in Cape Town fresh from successful, sold-out performances in New York and London.

Directed by veteran, multi-award winning director Fred Abrahamse and starring critically acclaimed actors Nicole Franco, Marcel Meyer, Melissa Haiden and Stephen Jubber, the excerpts featured some of Williams’s most exquisite lyrical passages.

The Vineyard’s The Hotel Plays production included a sumptuous three course, Fleur du Cap wine-paired dinner in a private dining room. Between courses, patrons viewed the one-acts in two separate suites in the hotel’s historic wing. The plays’ run was well attended and a great addition to our calendar of events. And as the Cape Argus said: “EXCEPTIONAL…Enigmatic and intriguing, the drama teases the mind, while gourmet fare nourishes the body in this double-bill with a difference.”
